Chia seeds

"Chia seeds.. what you got?"

-Mike, Afghanistan

Mike,

Well, frankly I had not heard of them before you said something, but they look along the same lines of sunflower, pumpkin, and other seeds. Mexicans originally were the first to cultivate them for food on a large scale.  They have dat sweet, sweet omega 3, if that matters to you. Here you can see sunflower seed facts (http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/nut-and-seed-products/3078/2) compared to chia (http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/nut-and-seed-products/3061/2). Looks like chia is a complete protein that has a good omega 3 to omega 6 ratio. However, it is lacking in some of the vitamins and minerals sunflower seeds would provide. Also, sunflower seeds provide more protein all together than chia. If you are interested, I recommend buying some and seeing how they taste/cost compared to a similar snack you would be replacing them with. Remember, there is no such thing as a superfood, and chia seeds will not change your life/make you win the lottery/whatever else health stores advertise. But they might be a tasty, healthier alternative to something else you have been eating.

TL;DR, they seem to be alright
